The hugely popular flea and vintage market is held at Bath Racecourse regularly, and offers over 250 stalls with goodies inside and out.
Now we've got it too. It's held once a month at Ashton Gate Stadium (home to Bristol City FC) and is easily accessible on foot, by car or even bus.
I took the bus this morning (Bristolians - number 25, outside Thai Edge restaurant) and arrived an hour after opening time.
I was slightly underwhelmed when I went in, after paying a reasonable £2 entry fee. The website claimed there would be 110 stalls, but I think this was a generous exaggeration.
The market was small, and the design poorly executed, which made it impossible to browse without somebody accidentally kneeing you. Still, there were some treasures to be found but it took some hunting.
The vintage clothes were genuine and fairly priced, which is more than can be said for the crockery. On nearly every table you could see someone had decided to dig into the back of their cupboard and polish any vaguely floral china they could find. Then stuck on a price tag of £16.
There were also some interesting jewelry pieces there, but again it was nearly impossible to browse it properly.
If you're looking for furniture, though, I would definitely recommend a visit. As well as some fantastic vintage and antique pieces, there was an excellent selection of oak and pine.
It's worth the trip, but if you've got the time, you'd be better off driving to Bath for their more superior market.
See http://www.bathfleamarket.co.uk for more details on the Bath and Bristol markets.
If you're looking for vintage fashion, I heartily recommend the Gimme Shelter! vintage fair at Bristol's retro bowling alley The Lanes. See: http://www.thelaneslive.com/ for more info.
